82 = xa + r  111 = xb + r  140 = xc + r  x(b − a) = 29, x(c − b) = 29, x(c − a) = 58  x divides both 29 and 58. Hence x = 29.  Check: ((82)/(29)) = 2 ((24)/(29))  ((111)/(29)) = 3 ((24)/(29))  ((140)/(29)) = 4 ((24)/(29))

$$\mathrm{82}\:=\:{xa}\:+\:{r} \\ $$$$\mathrm{111}\:=\:{xb}\:+\:{r} \\ $$$$\mathrm{140}\:=\:{xc}\:+\:{r} \\ $$$${x}\left({b}\:−\:{a}\right)\:=\:\mathrm{29},\:{x}\left({c}\:−\:{b}\right)\:=\:\mathrm{29},\:{x}\left({c}\:−\:{a}\right)\:=\:\mathrm{58} \\ $$$${x}\:\mathrm{divides}\:\mathrm{both}\:\mathrm{29}\:\mathrm{and}\:\mathrm{58}.\:\mathrm{Hence}\:{x}\:=\:\mathrm{29}. \\ $$$$\mathrm{Check}:\:\frac{\mathrm{82}}{\mathrm{29}}\:=\:\mathrm{2}\:\frac{\mathrm{24}}{\mathrm{29}} \\ $$$$\frac{\mathrm{111}}{\mathrm{29}}\:=\:\mathrm{3}\:\frac{\mathrm{24}}{\mathrm{29}} \\ $$$$\frac{\mathrm{140}}{\mathrm{29}}\:=\:\mathrm{4}\:\frac{\mathrm{24}}{\mathrm{29}} \\ $$
