x^3 −8x^2 +7 factorise it.

$$\mathrm{x}^{\mathrm{3}} −\mathrm{8x}^{\mathrm{2}} +\mathrm{7}\:\:\mathrm{factorise}\:\mathrm{it}. \\ $$

x^3 −8x^2 +7 =x^3 −x^2 −7x^2 +7 =x^2 (x−1)−7(x^2 −1) =x^2 (x−1)−7(x−1)(x+1) =(x−1)(x^2 −7x−7)

$${x}^{\mathrm{3}} −\mathrm{8}{x}^{\mathrm{2}} +\mathrm{7} \\ $$$$={x}^{\mathrm{3}} −{x}^{\mathrm{2}} −\mathrm{7}{x}^{\mathrm{2}} +\mathrm{7} \\ $$$$={x}^{\mathrm{2}} \left({x}−\mathrm{1}\right)−\mathrm{7}\left({x}^{\mathrm{2}} −\mathrm{1}\right) \\ $$$$={x}^{\mathrm{2}} \left({x}−\mathrm{1}\right)−\mathrm{7}\left({x}−\mathrm{1}\right)\left({x}+\mathrm{1}\right) \\ $$$$=\left({x}−\mathrm{1}\right)\left({x}^{\mathrm{2}} −\mathrm{7}{x}−\mathrm{7}\right) \\ $$
