what is the value of x in   2x + 5 = 10

$${what}\:{is}\:{the}\:{value}\:{of}\:{x}\:{in}\: \\ $$$$\mathrm{2}{x}\:+\:\mathrm{5}\:=\:\mathrm{10} \\ $$

collect the like terms  2x = 10 − 5  2x = 5  divide both side by 2  2x/2 = 5/2  therefore  x = 5/2  x = 2(1/2)

$${collect}\:{the}\:{like}\:{terms} \\ $$$$\mathrm{2}{x}\:=\:\mathrm{10}\:−\:\mathrm{5} \\ $$$$\mathrm{2}{x}\:=\:\mathrm{5} \\ $$$${divide}\:{both}\:{side}\:{by}\:\mathrm{2} \\ $$$$\mathrm{2}{x}/\mathrm{2}\:=\:\mathrm{5}/\mathrm{2} \\ $$$${therefore} \\ $$$${x}\:=\:\mathrm{5}/\mathrm{2} \\ $$$${x}\:=\:\mathrm{2}\frac{\mathrm{1}}{\mathrm{2}} \\ $$
