pipe A: (1/(20)) per hour  pipe B: (1/(30)) per hour  pipe C: −(1/(36)) per hour  8:00 =0  9:30 =(3/2)  11:00=3  (1/(20))×3+(1/(30))×(3/2)+((1/(20))+(1/(30))−(1/(36)))x=1  x=((72)/5) = 14:24

Afill in 3hr=(3/(20)) part of tank  B fill in 1(1/2)hr=(1/(30))×(3/2)=(1/(20))part..  at 11A.M tank fill=(3/(20)) +(1/(20))  =(1/5)part..  empty portion=1−(1/5)=(4/5)part  A,B,C together fill  =(1/(20))+(1/(30)) −(1/(36))=(1/(18)) part  ∴remaining part fill   (4/5)×18=14(2/5)hours  =14hr 24min ans  option (a)
