solve for x and y in this equation x^x +y^y =31 x+y=5
$${solve}\:{for}\:{x}\:{and}\:{y}\:{in}\:{this}\:{equation} \\ $$$${x}^{{x}} +{y}^{{y}} =\mathrm{31} \\ $$$${x}+{y}=\mathrm{5} \\ $$

x and y are not both even or odd.because the sum of two even or two odd number can not be equail to 5.sofor one of x or y should be even and one be odd. let: x=2p+1 and y=2q. 2p+1+2q=5⇒2(p+q)=4⇒p+q=2 from first equation ,x and y should be positive numbers.so the only possible value for p and q, is:p=q=1 ⇒x=2×1+1=3,y=2×1=2 then:(x,y)=(3,2) or(2,3).
